Holiday Traditions New and Old

The holiday season is here! Our family celebrates Christmas, and for me what kicks off the season is hearing those first few notes of holiday music. Yep, I am that consumer who is happily walking the aisles listening to the Christmas tunes playing over the loud speaker. This time of year is probably the only time of year I actually notice what is being played in the store. When I hear favorites like “Frosty the Snowman” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, I am instantly in a merry mood. The Christmas music is just the initial kickstart of my holiday traditions, though.

One tradition that has always been around is sweet potatoes with marshmallows…or some variation of the two. What is Christmas dinner without sweet potatoes and marshmallows?!

This season, however, one of my biggest goals for our little family is to establish some Christmas traditions of our very own. Previously, we’ve piggybacked off whatever the grandparents were doing or made a trip to Colorado to visit friends, so this year I am excited for us to design and create something from scratch for the five of us. For starters, I know Terra would love to walk down the stairs from the second floor to see a lit-up Christmas tree...but for those of you who don't know, we live in a one-story home, so that is a tall order for now!!! I do have one thing in particular in mind (that’s a bit more feasible) that I would like to test out this year, and that is a trip to Alamo Drafthouse for dinner and a movie. I’m excited to find out if my family deems it “tradition worthy” and see if it becomes an annual outing that we continue for holidays to come.

I’d love to hear about your family holiday traditions, cultivated over generations… or inspired in the holiday spirit. This month’s Item of Value is a chance to win dinner and a movie, on me. Just go to www.HindsiteAustin.com and register for the opportunity to pick up tickets to Alamo Drafthouse and treat yourself and a loved one to a stress-free holiday tradition!

Happy Holiday Season!
