Stay Cool My Friends

As I write this letter it is sixty degrees and cloudy, unusually cool for mid-May.  There are only a few more school days left, but this feels light years away from summer in Austin.  I am enjoying this last bit of cool weather on one of the many outdoor spaces at the new Austin Central Library (the lovely fourth floor reading porch with a view of the river).  I am working here this afternoon because my thirteen-year-old daughter and her friend begged me to take them; they love to come here and wander around and hang out.  If you live in Austin and haven’t been here yet, you really owe it to yourself to visit.  It is, in my mind, our tax dollars at their best.

I always describe Austin as having two seasons: Unpredictable, and HOT.  Those seasons known in other parts of the country as fall, winter and spring, we experience as a series of fronts which can bring anything at any time.  January can regularly bring both frost and eighty degrees in the same year.  Summer, on the other hand, is predictable: it will be hot, all day, every day.

So, while you’ve probably had to turn on your AC a few times over the past six months, we’re about to enter the season where it will be working overtime – are you ready?!  Is your AC system ready?!

Since we all know it’s coming, this is a great time to schedule a tune-up for your system to avoid ill-timed surprises.  That’s why this month’s Item of Value is an introduction to my friends at Altruistic A/C & Heating, who are offering a pre-season check-up at a fantastic price.  Have Les and his crew give it the once-over: blow the dust and debris off all surfaces and check drain lines.  A blocked condensation line can cause leaks, which in turn can damage equipment, floors, or drywall.  You can simply click here to request an appointment and Les will follow up with you to schedule a time. In the meantime, you can do your part to lighten your system’s load by tackling a few of the practical suggestions on this flyer.

It’s a good life!
