Season of the Grill

I couldn’t hear a thing over the roar of the boat’s engines, but their faces told the story of joy and delight.  Alina and Carla were being bounced around in a towable tube and loving every minute of it as we cruised around Lake LBJ on a recent weekend trip.  This was our first vacation of the summer and we had a great time hanging out in the water, swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddling and of course, pulling the kids around on a boat.  It was a wonderful and welcome opportunity to escape the heat that has arrived in the area.  It is officially summer and the temperatures outside are rising (have you had your AC serviced yet?).  Fortunately, our amazing city has so many great ways to find refuge from the heat.  With as much fun as we had on the lake, I can see this summer turning in to a tour of the city’s spring-fed pools, shady trails along creeks, nearby water parks and all the water holes and lakes to the west of us.

In addition to now being summer, it is also grilling season.  We rang in the season on our trip to the lake by grilling every dinner we ate there.  After the time we spent on the lake, we went back to the house we had rented and fired up the grill for a big family meal.  Gathering around the grill and then around the dinner table was the perfect close to a day of fun and staying cool on the lake.  I love working the grill and preparing a meal that has that something that you just can’t get when cooking inside.  I realized we have created a tradition around grilling not just for the food, but for the time we have with each other.  Everything can burn to a crisp and no one will care because that probably means everyone, including the cook, had a great time.

For this month’s Item of Value, we are bringing back the very popular chance to win a Big Green Egg to help make your summer celebrations really sizzle.  CLICK HERE and submit your favorite grill-able recipe to register to win the Big Green Egg.  Once we have gathered all the entries and recipes, we’ll collect all of them into a custom cookbook and share it with our ever-growing Hindsite 20/20 family.  I look forward to trying some of the recipes that are submitted and hearing about your stories around the grill this summer!

It’s a good life!
