♫ “Sweeeeet Caroline”

The year is 1993.  The month, November.  The place: a coliseum in small-town USA.  A 13-year-old girl sits breathlessly before a massive round stage, trying to look cool (even though she’s with her parents), waiting for the show to begin.  Suddenly, there’s a flash of light.  And then another.  And then the most spectacular (and probably only) laser light show the girl has ever seen springs to life.  But then – somehow rivaling this spectacle, emerging before a sea of bongos, a rousing gospel choir, and a massive Christmas tree – appears the man, the myth, the legend: the incomparable Neil Diamond, belting out holiday hits along with that famous tune, “Sweet Caroline.”  It was my very first concert.

Now it’s pretty hard to compete with an early ‘90s Neil Diamond Christmas Tour for quality concert-going, but Austin City Limits isn’t a bad place to start.  My first year in Austin was my first time at ACL, which was also my first time at a music festival… which I guess goes to show that you’re never too old for more firsts.  Now I’m not saying that any of those ACL performers were of a “Diamond-esque” caliber, but just seeing that many amazing acts in one place made me feel pretty proud to call Austin my new hometown.

As you might imagine, this trip down my musical memory lane has me particularly excited about this month’s Item of Value – an opportunity for you to score your own free tickets to ACL!  Visit www.HindsiteAustin.com (or click here) to register to win a pair of 3-day weekend passes to this iconic (even if, unfortunately, Diamond-free) event.  Remember that Diamonds are forever, but good concert-going memories can last almost as long.

Rock on!
